Teats and Bottles - Baby Feeding Products
Teats - which one is good for your baby?
Modern teats are made from either silicone or latex. You may need to try bell or a bulbous shape to determine the taste of your baby. Bulbous teats are orthodontic - they mimic the shape of a nipple.
Teats are different in flow rate which is very specific and not does not directly depend on baby's age. You should try teats with different flow rate. If your baby is spluttering - switch to slower flow. If it is too hard to suck, get a faster flow teat.
Advanced models of teats offer a variable-flow rate that is varied by measuring how hard babies suck.
Choosing right bottle
The range of available baby bottles is wide. It includes standard bottles, wide-necked bottles, oval-shaped bottles and angle-shaped bottles. There are also heat-sensitive bottles, bottle sets and disposable bottles.
Depending on the type, you might find some bottles more suitable than others. For example heat sensitive bottles change colour if the milk is too hot, sucking from wide necked bottles baby will not gulp down air with the milk, easy grip bottles help older babies to drink unaided, wide necked bottles take only silicone teats, etc. In any way - choosing a bottle requires some experimentation.
Tips for teats and bottles
- get 6 bottles for bottle feed from birth OR 2 when breast-feeding
- purchase more teats than bottles - they require replacement
- buy teats and bottles separately
- get yourself a bottle-brush and a teat-brush to clean your bottles properly
- clean teats and bottles before sterilising
